It is 1941, and Hitler’s army has invaded Greece. Calliope Adham, a young, widowed schoolmistress in the village of Molyvos, is recruited by the Germans as a liaison officer.
Calliope’s wartime duties bring her into contact with Lieutenant Lorenz Umbreit, and despite the backdrop of war and Calliope’s involvement in the Greek Resistance, a friendship blossoms.
´Arrested Song´ spans three decades, charting Calliope’s journey through war, civil conflict, and dictatorship, as she emerges as a champion for girls‘ and women’s rights against a turbulent and beautifully rendered Greek island setting.
