‚Being good People themselves, their first & principal care was to incite in her a Love of Virtue & a Hatred of Vice, in which they so well succeeded (Eliza having a natural turn that way herself) that when she grew up, she was the delight of all who knew her.‘ That was until Eliza was caught stealing a pound50 note and was thrown out by her benefactors. A classic short story from Austen’s „juvenilia“, written in her teenage years and originally shared with her family and friends. The perfect insight into the mind of young Austen.
