Why did Christians preach about loving their neighbours and yet keep their fellow humans as slaves? Ups and downs with Stowe’s own family, and the inhumanity of slavery are the focus of this collection of essays. The obvious inequality spurred Stowe to get involved with the ‚Fugitive Slave Act‘ which came to be important for the emancipation of slaves. Written with careful and detailed insight, this book is recommended for both history-lovers and curious souls because of its compelling portrayal of life and slavery in the South.
